Algebra I Recipe: Solving Quadratic Equations Using Factoring
By G Redden
- Set all terms equal to zero.
- Factor the polynomial completely.
- Set each factor that has a variable equal to zero.
- Solve each equation.
- The numbers obtained in step 4 are the solutions. If we were to graph the quadratic equation, these values would be the x-intercepts.
1.
2x2 + 3x = 5
2.
4x2 + 2x = 0
3.
3x2 + 7x + 2 = 0
4.
12x2 - 5x – 3 = 0
5.
4x2 - 18x = 0
