Algebra I Recipe: Writing Equations in y = mx + b when Given Two Points on the Line
By G Redden
- Use the two points to find the slope m =
- Use point-slope form: y - k = m (x - h).
- Substitute the slope value found in place of “m”.
- Choose one of the two points to substitute in place of h and k .
- Distribute the slope value.
- Add or subtract "k" on both sides to isolate “y” and get y = mx + b.
