Directions and/or Common Information:

Montgomery the Pelican is flying 27 feet above the ocean.  He makes his descent with an initial downward velocity of 15 feet per second.

Write an equation to model Montgomery’s descent.

Find the number of seconds it takes Montgomery to hit the ocean.

After 1/2 a second into his dive, find the number of feet he has descended and how many more feet before he hits the ocean?

Directions and/or Common Information:

Ollie the Osprey if floating down the Alligator River looking for his lunch.  He spots a fish ½ meter below the surface and dives under the water with an initial velocity of 1 meter per second.

Write an equation to solve for the time it will take Ollie to catch his lunch.

Solve the equation. (Round your answer to the nearest 1000th)

Directions and/or Common Information:

A basketball player releases his lay-up shot at 7.5 feet with an initial velocity of 19 ft per second.

Write an equation to model the flight of the ball.

Find the maximum height of the ball and the time that this occurs.  (Round your answer to the nearest 1000th)

If the shot is an air ball, find the number of seconds it will take for the ball to hit the floor.
