a measure of the likelihood that a given event will occur; expressed as a number between 0 and 1 (see Experimental/Empirical probability and Theoretical/Expected probability).
Example
If you have a bag with 1 red pen and 4 blue pens in it and you pick out 1 pen at random, the probability that you will pick a red pen is 0.2. The probability that you will pick a blue pen is 0.8.
